Here's an interesting auction. A MOOG Liberation being sold to fund a Syntar. Note the Syntar actually predated the MOOG Liberation as the first keytar ever, a interesting bit of synth history. The Syntar featured an amazingly expressive control interface on the neck that has yet to be reproduced and it did sound quite nice. It's worth noting that the person behind the Syntar was George Mattson who is currently the man behind the new Mattson Mini Modular.As for this Liberation, here are the details from the auction:

Honestly, I wanted to let George smash this fucker on the road outside his house and then use the residuals as a campfire fodder. But, he's such a easy going guy I can't imagine that he'd take out 30 years of pent up aggression due to the snuffing out of the syntar by the Moog liberation (haters? I'm not trolling you, I promise).
ReplyDeleteI wonder if someone out there will buy it and then smash it for George. Or light it ablaze on stage. Real Moog fans don't consider the Liberation Moog anyway.
I do like the ribbon controller though .. however, George has already promised to install a nice ribbon in my Syntar neck as well as allow me to control my dual MMM with it. Bless him.
eh i happen to consider myself a "real moog" fan (i don't care too much for the 921 oscillator, for example), and the Liberation is one of the most bad-ass keyboards i've ever used.
ReplyDeletedon't knock the Liberation unless you have explored one. _especially_ the aftertouch. it's quite literally like no other aftertouch mechanism, and is _far_ more expressive than anything else for mono channel pressure.
the Liberation may not have the sound of the RA Moog era, but it is pretty much the best synth Norlin made IMHO for pure playability.
anyone who is considering destroying a Liberation in a publicity stunt to fund a Syntar or MMM should consider trading it to me for modules to hook into their Syntar and MMM.
also, propping the Liberation on top of a Hammond organ is more fun than wearing it:

talk about poetic justice.. it's like George got the last laugh over the liberation in being comissioned by you.. be sure to post videos/demos of your new syntar when you get it..
