"My friend plays around with my .COM modular synthesizer. The step sequencer in the Poly Evolver Keyboard controls the .COM. Sounds pretty good. :D"

  1. ita great that so many people are able to get and experiment with synthesizers. back in the 60's and 70's it was very expensive to buy a synth of any kind really. you'd think with such a large modular and a poly evolver that perhaps something more could have been done. maybe we are getting spoiled? maybe this stuff is just that much more accessible that even those less inspired to create music can afford them? i didnt find this very inspiring or interesting. i would liked to have heard and seen more.

  2. I'm always torn with things like this. On the one hand, I can understand wanting to tech demo something, like "Here I got XYZ and here's it functioning", without much though to the composition.

Then again, there's not much that's "amazing" here. I mean, sure, the gear is nice stuff, but it's not like we couldn't figure out how to hook up a step sequencer to a modular synth on our own! Or even imagine how it might sound.

So then we're left wondering why there are so many videos showing a boring loop with a boring filter tweak in them. I guess people just like to show off their stuff, and that's great, often I like to hear those kinds of videos because I'm thinking of buying some particular module or something and it's good to know if it will provide whatever sound I'm looking for. I guess, I Don't know, I missed my point somewhere, or maybe never had one.

Anyhow, nice gear, but, yearning for videos of something other than someone nodding furiously to what could be the demo pattern on some generic "Techno Beatz" plastic box.
