Blade Runner - The Dream

YouTube via eisdorne. According to Mark Smart on the AH list, this clip features the Roland VP-330 choir sound. The soundtrack of course is from Vangelis and is know for his use of the Yamaha CS80.

  1. Well the very last moment is a non-album cue heard several times on his score to "Antarctica" (1983). Since the Unicorn dream only appeared in the first "Directors Cut" in the 1990s, there are good questions as to the source of that music - basically a pad and a higher pitched figure. Was is used in "Antarctica" after being dropped from "Blade Runner" or was the cue from "Antarctica" to begin with and called into service in the 90s by some music editor to plug into an unscored sequence?

Also it's worth noting that Vangelis got some of his first digital gear during "Blade Runner", notably an Emulator and a Yamaha GS-2

  3. It's fairly well known that portions of the Blade Runner soundtrack were inspired or taken from other pices of work, such as "Memories Of Green" which came from "See You Later". Also, certain parts of the soundtrack were also used on subsequent Scott/Vangelis collaborations such as "1492 Conquest Of Paradise".

The VP-330 was used extensively on Blade Runner, as was the CS-80 and many other electronic and acoustic instruments.

  4. I'm certain "Memories of Green" was the only re-used cue in the original 1982 film. Now if you count work prints and after the fact edits there may be something else, like the Antarctica cue. As for 1492. I thought listened to every cue over a decade ago. I didn't hear anything from "Blade Runner" but I was amused that the Richard Horwitz track "Fever Ride" was used.

Also FYI, there's a 3 CD set of Blade Runner just out in England and possibly other parts of Europe. The first CD is the existing soundtrack album. The second CD has real cues not on the original album and the third album is new Vangelis "inspired by" tracks.

  8. Well, considering Harrison Ford, Ridley Scott and Hampton Fancher have all clearly stated for many years that Deckard is human, I'll take their word for it over anyone elses ;o)

  9. if you've wathced the director's cut clearly deckard is a replicant.

    re failed muso/ridley scott:

`In Channel 4's documentary On The Edge Of Blade Runner, Scott discusses the scenes and asked what they mean, he confirms with a grin: "He's a replicant".'

  10. re replicant: this too from ridley:

btw - gotta agree with ridley, i always hated the voice-overs, some studio bigwig too dumb to understand the story, so we get crap like this: "Sushi. That's what my ex-wife called me. Cold fish."

  11. And therein lies the beauty of this film. The Director says he is (he has also gone on record and said he isn't), the writer, Hampton Fancher says he's human, Harrison Ford says he's human, the producer, Ivor Powell says he's human, the geeks say he's a replicant.

Ultimately, he is whoever you want him to be and the only accurate answer to the question, "Is Deckard a Replicant?" is, as Paul Sammon says.....

    Maybe

    ;o)

  12. ok, ok, ok. i'll stop trolling.

depending on the version you watch deckard could be either human or replicant.
