  1. Though I never owned a D-50, I do have a Roland MT-32 in my closet, which I purchased for better music support in Sierra computer games. To this day, I absolutely love the sound of LA synthesis. Probably for nostalgic reasons, as it sounds pretty cheesy.

  2. I have a D-550 and some of the pads can be so eerie and ethereal. You just have to edit out that cheese ball sparkly bell they wanted to add to every factory patch it seems.

  3. there are a lot of pads created by other users which don't have the chiff - those are the ones I bought the D50 for in the first place - that's what's making it sound modern even today

  4. The D-50 is class. As the above have said, dump the presets and get the analog/synth patches off the net or program some yourself. It's amazing how edgy/ethereal/beautiful this synth sounds once you get past the overused presets from the late 80's.

My favourite digital synth ever, almost analog in many respects (certain sounds) at least compared to DCO analogs. Later digital synths got things 'too right' in the way they did stuff which makes them now worthless/dated. Make no mistake, D-50 is a genuine synthesizer and not an all out rompler!
