"This piece of equipment was owned and used by Vince Clarke FROM ERASURE. It has been regularly serviced. The equipment was part of his studio that has been relocated to the USA. There is no reserve on this item. The Fairlight CMI (Computer Musical Instrument) was the first polyphonic digital sampling synthesizer. It was designed in 1978 by the founders of Fairlight, Peter Vogel and Kim Ryrie, and based on a dual microprocessor computer designed by Tony Furse in Sydney, Australia. It rose to prominence in the early 1980s. This particular unit unfortunately was in a flood and got a bit wet.... I guess we all agree he's crazy to sell everything? I wonder what plug-in was the one where he said, "This is good enough I'm selling my gear". Could it be this is his retirement fund? OH L'AMOUR!

ReplyDeleteThere was a big Ebay ad a while back that offered a whole bunch of his stuff, but it included one Fairlight, a couple of mixing boards, and a whole bunch of mostly disposable effects units (lots of Behringer).
There weren't any other synths in the ad. Unless he's selling the rest of his stuff on Vemia ...
I bet it's a big Korg stunt -- he'll sell everything, then demo his new studio that will have just an Oasys :)
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, I think he's just thinning the herd -- selling stuff he doesn't need/use anymore, and possibly also stuff that would need conversion to US power.
Not like he's selling stuff he's known for (Roland modulars, etc.) A broken Fairlight, sure why not sell it.
