A day with analog synths

"December 2007, Marigny theater. That day, all the synths decided to give up on Jean Michel Jarre, who spent the day re-tuning them. And in the evening, the main synth lost its tune at the beginning of the show, leaving JMJ struggling to play the right note. Painful."

The Memorymoog terrifies me, and this is only one reason.
ReplyDeletetuning synths can be a bitch. i teach a small electronic music class to homeschoolers and every other thing i say while theyre experimenting on my mono/poly is to never ever ever EVER touch the tuning.
ReplyDeleteYou have to give props to JMJ...most people this far into their career would be playing laptops(Throbing Gristle) or new synths like...what's that Korg...Triton's?

That was painful to watch. Bet his Virus Polar and Andromeda don't do that.

i have never seen a memorymoog that isnt trouble
ReplyDeleteI give him credit too. If he did this on laptops it would be extremely BORING. Many a performer would have just given up, gone to another synth or kicked it to the ground. He's very brave going out with all these analogs. I can't wait to get the DVD!! Just came out in US today. Maybe he should have lunch with Eddie Van Halen and his un-tuneable guitar.
ReplyDeleteI've had a Memorymoog LAMM for several years with no issues. I can't imagine he doesn't have the LAMM upgrade with the improved tuning algorithms. Does anyone know for sure?
