I'm developing a growing conviction that (drum roll) all modular synthesizer design is wrong!
ReplyDeleteLook at the Doepfer pic -
- knobs obscured by cables
- no sense of priority of the functions of various modules, or within the modules
These things are supposed to be musical instruments after all. Where's the ergonomics?
OK, I know we the last thing we need is another format, but - we need another format!
I'm thinking 19" rack format, turned sideways. That allows using cheap standard hardware.
The top half of each module would be for knobs, the bottom half for patching. No more knobs hidden by a forest of cables. No more random scattering of jack sockets between the knobs.
Within the top half, big knobs for big functions & vice versa.
OK - rant over. Flame on - soldering irons at dawn!
maybe you'd like the wiard 300 series, especially as you can solder prepatch connections between modules
ReplyDeleteThat's more like it! Except for the Celtic flourishes obviously (I'm more the Dieter Rams type). Thanks Richard
ReplyDeleteJust buy a black 300 series without the art.
ReplyDeleteyeah, if you order one in black you can have the 1200 series still in production alongside it
ReplyDeleteI should have mentioned my fenix modular as well which has the knobs above but no prepatching with banana jacks so it's a seaweed of cables when all set up
"I dont have time to make patches. and it didn’t give me a vintage sound. "
ReplyDeleteThat's too bad:( Cool setup.
