  1. Thankyou for posting my videos here, if anyone has any questions then please feel free to fire away, I know its not the best video but I saw that there weren't any videos on the net (that I could find at least) of this machine in action.

  2. Thanks for putting the videos up on YouTube hollowman. They are VERY much appreciated. Most of us will never get to play with one let alone see and here one in action.

  3. Thanks for uploading. Now I have a rough idea of what I'm aiming for when I get mine up and running.
    Cheers,

Just out of curiosity does anyone have an estimate for the value of a fully running 4600?

  4. The last one I saw sold on ebay last June/July for around £650 and that wasn't guaranteed to work and also had been sitting in a loft for ages so I'm guessing problems could be associated with that i.e. damp, heat, all stuff not good for the electrics. I'd put a conservative estimate on a fully working one at around £900 but theres no reason why this shouldn't shoot to over £1300 if you get the right people "fighting" over it.

Good luck with the refurb :)

  5. Thanks for the videos.

Has anyone every done any "serious" recordings with the ETI 4600 or Maplin 5600? I'd love to hear what they could do. They look like EMS VCS3's on steroids.

When I was a mere kid, I desperately wanted to build one of these things. I still remember the cover of the Oct. '73 issue of ETI, with the 4600 in all its glory. But this is the first time I have ever knowingly heard one of these beasts.

A question for hollowman ... how do the filters sound? They have been criticized as the weak point of the 4600.

  6. Yeah the filters are a little bit of a let down, to be honest. I'm happy to be told I'm doing it wrong, but it seems that no matter what configuration I use with the filters involved, I can't generate any sounds, effects, what have you, that I can't get by manipulating some other part of the synth. It's a shame.
To answer your other query, I am using the 4600 to record at the moment so once it's completed Ill be happy to link you through to my creations (for better or worse!) otherwise I'm on myspace at www.myspace.com/hollowman and also at www.myspace.com/submissivestate. My personal page has pictures of my other synths as well, although none so massive as this'n!

If you're refurbing and need better pictures of the inside workings (if it helps at all) then I'd be happy to take some for you.
