  1. I had the rack version a lot time ago. It was a LOT of fun, and the patch editing was actually easy enough. It had graphic display of the harmonic amplitudes, and there were nice macros to edit a bunch of harmonics at once. Also, it had very flexible filters and envelopes.

    Unfortunately, these synths were noisy. There are some simple mods to raise the output level which might help a bit. Otherwise, get a noise filter/gate thingy.

    Don't expect "realism" a la sample playback or physical modeling, but the K5 is a great synth.

  2. Whoever buys it should figure on having to replace the LCD backlight. The display is very difficult to read without it.

    ...are there any reputable dealers with proven backlights to buy from these days? I'm hesitant to go with the chinese peddlers on ebay.
