On the Workbench: Juno-106, part 2

Roland 80017A voice chips on edge. Click here for part 2 of the repair post on Sequence 15.

BTW, be sure to check back on Sequence 15 for progress as I do not plan to put up every post. I thought this was a good image of what the dreaded Roland 80017A voice chips look like on the board. The chips are notorious for going out, and they can be very difficult to find. You can find all posts on the 80017A, including a clone of the chip here.

  1. I was surprised to see the label "tested OK 11-18-07" on the 80017A since I thought Roland had abandoned production of both voicechips and the VCF/VCA-hybrid 80017A?

  2. kroffe, Roland did indeed stop production of thess some time ago, and they made an annoucement about running out of remaining stock in 2002. That label was put on there by the seller that I bought it from -- he sells a number of them on Ebay. This particular one he said was a used one salvaged from a dead GR700.

  3. And BTW: Thanks, Matrix, for picking up my blog. I'm going to put up a permanant Web page for all of this 106 stuff -- will post something to the forum when I have it all set up.
