AudioCubes Drop Test February 2008

YouTube via Percussa
"An inside view on creating and testing the AudioCubes, the first commercially available tangible interface technology in the world (see www.percussa.com). In this video we test new packaging for the AudioCubes, to make sure the product does not get damaged during transport. The inventor, Bert Schiettecatte, walks us through the process."

Update: Anyone know if you can theoretically use these like you would Reactable? I'm guessing you can assign them to control different parameters on a synth and use them in much the same way.

  3. What's interesting is I recently showed Reactable to a friend. I kept thinking, why hasn't this come out yet. I then realized the AudioCubes might be similar in concept - you just get different visuals. I haven't played with them myself or looked too deeply into them, but if you can assign them to different parameters on a synth, theoretically you could use them in a similar way.

  4. you can find the documentation on their website. i am ready to stand corrected, but it looks like you can get info from which side of one cube is facing which side of another, and how close they are, also from proximity to other objects, such as your hand. reactable looks like it can "see" the roientation of an object, so you can turn it like a knob and change parameters that way. i might be wrong, but i don't think the cubes work like that. i think they are pretty interesting though, especially since they can process audio all by themselves, and you can make them glow any colour you want, by sending cc messages for the red, green and blue channels individually!

  5. Yeah, I didn't think they were exactly the same, just similar. With the Audio Cubes you don't need the projectors, tables or cameras, but then you don't get the extreme visuals. The colors are a nice effect and I'm sure useful.
