Orpheus Music to Shut Down

Sad news in the blogosphere today. Orpheus Music has just put up a post announcing that "This blog has attracted the attention of an 'unwanted party' and, as a consequence (to save me from any potential trouble), will be closed and deleted in the next couple of days."
If you haven't checked out Orpheus Music, do so while you can. You will find tons of classic synthesizer based albums of times past. The post does not go into detail as to why. So sad that all of this information will be lost.

  1. Well, he's probably been told by the copyright holders to cease and desist. Why that would happen, I don't know, since nobody would know about that music at all if it weren't posted somewhere.

We all know who complained. It's not like it could be anyone else.

  3. Gail Zappa has been lawyering like crazy lately.

  4. It could always be the RIAA (if any of the music is RIAA affiliated) without the artist(s) being aware of what the RIAA is doing.

There really should be a way to make this music available without having to resort to the file-sharing, but most of the record companies simply aren't willing to even try to sell everything in their catalogs.

I guess this sort of BS is what happens when we let Congress extend copyrights every time Disney sees a threat to its Mickey Mouse gravy train.

  5. well who _did_ complain?

anyway, you get a C&D, you comply, end of story.

if your sharity blog gets enough heat, you make another one.

orpheus posted mainly obscure shit. it's not like some assholes with "sharity" blogs that post nothing but currently-available music.

for the record, none that Matrix has linked to are like that. they might trip up and do it occasionally though.

oh i forgot. he _did_ post like all of the TONTO stuff despite the fact you can go buy it.

  6. I know who I thought of as soon as I read about this.

On another topic, I'm sick of the cult of Zappa. I used to be a huge Zappa fan, but now I'm so sick of hearing about lame "Zappa Plays Zappa" cover bands and previously unreleased and overpriced Zappa albums.

Did anyone see the _Modern Drummer_ interview with ZPZ drummer Joe Traver, the ultimate Zappa cultist? I don't think I've ever read a less informative article.

  7. Seems synthie is probably referring to Ter-Wal/Dy-Wen Los-Car...

Not sure why the whole blog needs to come down though, if there's only one artist complaining.
