  3. Well, I'm glad that Herr Michaelis had fun designing the thing, but I won't buy one. This time, it sounds like a cross between a heavily modulated resonating VCF and an old transistor radio.

    Neverthless, I suspect that it is related to something very interesting - a chaotic oscillator. This is a nonlinear dynamical system that generates "unstable" oscillations that never quite become just noise. There are several demos of these on YouTube.

    I haven't found a good explanation online yet, but you can look for "Chua's chaotic oscillator". It's well known in "chaos theory".
