This is the kind of album I've wanted to hear from Trent for years. I approve!
with this many tracks, obviously i like some more than others, but there are some very cool ideas and sounds on this album. not as much modular stuff as i was expecting, but cool anyway! :) definitely liking the buchla shots in the booklet too!
ReplyDeleteI try and try to like NIN, but just can't. Maybe it's ADD, but i found most of this stuff to be rather boring. I guess i'm better off sticking to the bands he ripped off to get his career started.

ReplyDeleteToday I purchased it with success. But the site timed out when I was downloading and ruined the download thus not letting me redo my download.
Bit-Torrent luckily came to the rescue. If you illegally download this (which Trent supported piracy in the past) and you like it then feel free to spot him that 5 dollars anyways. Its great work and he deserves new gear with the money.
I'm really glad he opted a soundscape album. He may scare off some "fans" without his traditional more song like works but soundscapes is also nothing new to Trent. Its a really amazing series of songs that need checked out by not only NIN fans but gear fans as well.

ReplyDeleteI like this latest offering. And I really like that Trent has taken the approach to music distribution the way he has. To be clear of his label/contract obligations must be a huge weight off his shoulders. To be free from the bonds of slavery must be a truely wonderful feeling. Digital distribution, while not a new concept, is definitely the way to go for any artist who's contractual obligations have been met and they want to venture out on their own. This latest batch of tunes is a great start. His music has, admittedly, been hit and miss for me (and who's isn't really?), but he has definitely proved he's no flash in the pan, embracing technology and more often than not pushing it beyond what most people would consider exceptable in a world full of fickle listeners. He may not be the leader of the pack, but he's definitely not a follower either.

No idea is exactly original. But if your going to say he is a rip off at least state which works are rip offs and whos work it originally was. I hate to hear I am a rip off when the criticizer has no reasonable example. (Much less the talent to actually do the job.)

Been looking forward to an album without lyrics or words for a while.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed the instrumentals NIN has done in the past, especially "leaving hope."
There is also a shot of an Effector13 Improbability Drive in the liner pack. Not many of those were made.

I hope to see more instrumental releases.
