ReplyDeleteWhere did you get the boats made? I finally had our HVAC guy build them out of steel for my tiny little system, but it feels like a dirty little secret since they're not aluminum.

Hi, guys! I'm the one who did the Cabinet!
ReplyDeleteI was originaly going to make an wood casing for my DIY modules like a Dot.Com, but found a metal shop nearby my house (I live in Brazil) that could both supply me with blank aluminum panels *and* fold bigger aluminum sheets for me.
I just had to assemble the "sides" where the big screws go and make the wood sides. I used CAD software to do the drawings for better precision. I'll send the CAD files to anyone who wants to do the project too.
And yes, I'm gonna use DIY modules on this cabinet. The form factor was chosen by me, and I'm designing every circuit and panel from scratch.

The original Buchla cabinets are made of steel, AFAIK! I just made them using aluminium because it's waaay lighter (and cheaper). The same machine used to fold the steel sheets can be used for aluminium (but you need thicker sheets)!
The Buchla 200e cabinet has aluminum boats.
