Colored Glasses (Demo)

YouTube via maisonvague

"People have been writing me asking to hear more material, so I decided to upload this demo version of Colored Glasses, a song I plan to release on CD in the fall of 2008. The synth tracks were recorded on a Roland Jupiter-4, and the bass track was deliciously played by my friend and former classmate Ken Rich (thanks, Ken!). Many apologies for the boring video. Unfortunately, I'm so busy writing songs for Maison Vague's debut CD that I have very little time for making videos. Sorry.

Colored Glasses

Wearing your rose colored glasses
You can see more clearly now
See the clouds that hang so heavy on your head
Turn a lovely shade of red
Disappearing
I've got colored glasses, too

You and I are just beginning
The journey we set out to take
When we hit some troubled spots along the way
Put your glasses on and say
Please don't worry
I've got colored glasses, too

Who's to say if we look foolish?
Who's to blame if we go mad?
In the end it makes no difference to me
If the others cannot see
Life is easy
They need colored glasses, too

  1. the opening arp. is a really cool patch
how do you get it to do the filter sweep thing while you keep playing? is it a setting or just by hand?

  2. The filter sweep is programmed into the patch using a slow LFO sin wave to control the VCF via VCF MOD in the PROGRAMMABLE section of the Jupiter. The JP-4 has this cool little LED which changes in brightness as the LFO runs through its cycle. I would use this LED to time my entrances so that the sweeps, while not in sync, would at least begin where I wanted them to. Overall, the key to the filter effect going on throughout the song is a carefully planned out-of-sync LFO! Clark
