in my opinion the dx7 and other 80s digital synths like it are the best bargains out there right now in terms of used gear. i recently picked up a dx7 for $200 on an impulse buy from craigslist, having always wanted one as a kid, and have been having a blast with it. i find it a really inspiring and great sounding synth- hugely under-rated and under-valued right now. i've even been gigging with it wearing it as sort of a cringe-worthy badge of synth-geek honor, but the truth is it sounds and feels great for what i using it for.
ReplyDeleteBeyond all doubts IMHO, the DX-7 and it's big brother the TX816 were the best sounding (and lowest resolution) of the Yamaha FM machines.
ReplyDeleteI do love the idea of "getting away with" using this synth. Now's the time to get one and use it in an unconventional manner, it seems!
