  2. Actually I thought it was pretty cool. Crickets! Buchlas remind me of what true synthesizers are to kids - amazing sound machines that can take you anywhere. I wonder how difficult it would be to make these sounds on other synths. There's just something about buchla that screams sonic exploration vs. imitation.

  3. Matrix,

i agree with you, no doubt.
The thing that concerns me a little is the fact that EVERYBODY who owns a 200e posts videos these days, regardless of the sonic value.

I guess it's better to have more videos than few to reference to...maybe?

  4. Definitely better. Not everyone has the same taste. The number one reason I put stuff up is to give a glimpse of what the synth can do. It's never to post stuff for the sake of the music alone. It's up to you to listen or look and deduce what you could do with the synth if you had it. Variety is always good and everything goes up. If it doesn't then it probably won't in the future and its lost.

Whenever I contemplate buying a new synth, I scour the internet for samples, images and info on the synth. Everything I find is useful to some extent. I want people researching synths to be able to do the same here.

  5. BTW, what you hear in this video could easily be incorporated into a track.

  6. And if you are Brian Eno, it could well as be the track. :)

  7. I went out of my way to try and generate 200e cicadas on my track "17 Year Guest"

  8. That's odd... it doesn't sound anything like a banjo!

  9. Haven't you heard? The Buchla == Banjo meme is dead.

  10. Here's another 200e clip that I thought was pretty good.

  11. My problem with some of these Buchla videos are the audio quality, I agree having more is better then to few... But youtube has enough compression and artifacts in their audio streams already. Why lower the audio quality anymore with a camera mic that's not even pointed at a speaker. spend $10K on a synth, hours on an interesting patch and then ten seconds on setting up the shot.

  12. My guess it's a matter of time. No one is getting paid to put these up. Some people have a system in place to do what you suggest, others do not. For those that do not, my guess is they are just fiddling around and sharing that. I appreciate that. The second it becomes "work" is the second it stops for many including myself.

  13. i love all the buchla videos there was a time when there were none...i hope to have my 200e in 3 weeks time :-) :-) :-)

With regards direct recordings vs camera mics again I like both...sometimes the room ambience just adds to the sound

  14. I thought you could make the same noise with an electric haircutting shear and an old coffee percolator.
For a lot less money! :-)
