Moog Minimoog Minus Boards

images via this auction
"Minimoog, Serial # 6581 final assembled (back in the good old days when synths were hand made) on December 21, 1974. Back in the late 80's when I was into at the time revolutionary MIDI possibilities, I decided I wanted a Studio Electronics Midimoog. So I took the cards out and sent them to Studio Electronics to go in the Midimoog I bought from them (I sold the Midimoog several years ago).

A Minimoog with Serial # 6587 recently sold for almost $4000.00. It obviously came with the cards, but if you're willing to wait and find the cards, you'll have a Minimoog that will be guaranteed to go up in value even more as each year passes!" Again, note this one does NOT have the voice board so it obviously does NOT work. Now go look at the price. :) Anyone know what each board was? You can see the slots in this bottom inside shot.

  1. There used to be tons of them like this out there, some got thrown away. Studio Electronics racked quite a few Mini's that way and the cases were out there. I got one from Chick Corea that was empty for about $75, then told various techs I knew to let me know if they ever got any seriously damaged Mini's in. One got dropped in air cargo and smashed, but the boards were good - so I got them for $100. However, finding unused boards now is pretty hard...

This case might be best to restore on that was refinished or has a messed-up front panel. But kinda pricey for that.

  2. Yeah, I'm afraid it's a parts unit at this point.

  3. One without the boards sold at auction on ebay for $810 on March 3rd 2008.

I would really want to buy this, but the price is steep especially when you can still find complete working minimoogs for this price.

  4. That price is just stupid

  5. That's WAAAY too expensive for a synth with no synth circuits. I paid the same price for a perfectly functional '73 Minimoog.

    I hate eBay.

  6. It wont sell, but someone with a functional minimoog will see this and say "wow, mine must be worth $6000"

  7. Wow...
It sold with a BIN of $1895!
We may see $6000 Minimoog by the turn of the year....
