Think of all the colleges that ditched their Buchlas and redid their curricula when this thing came out.

This was a big deal back in 1986 when I first got into synthesizers. Not just one, but *eight* DX7s! Its list price was high four digits.

And yes, now I would be more likely to collect the analog instruments that predated it :)
