What's the opinion on the CS1x? Seen many go for absolutely diddlysquat sums of money around my parts and I'm tempted to go for it, can't be worse than the junk sounds from the RM1x?
ReplyDeleteIt's an entry level PCM (sample) based synth. Very simple, but fun. It has common editing paramaters - LFOs, Envs, Filter, OSC setting and so on. Not as deep/powerful as the AN1X that came out around the same time.
ReplyDeleteMr Longhair.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Matrix, and I'll expand.
I've got one. In fact, it's right next to me, and I used it earlier today (it's internal sounds).
Lots of plain waveforms. Basic low-pass filter, resonsnce doesn't sound too crappy.
You can't just dial up "Saw" or "Pulse" as such. You've got lots of "material waves" in lots of banks. The Materials are the fundamental components of all the preset sounds.
They are mostly just short samples looped. Being a ROMpler, there is no PWM waveform as such, and you can't dial up and specific width, you have to find a sound (with a scope, as I do sometimes) that fits your need).
Effects are basic, they'll do. You can drive it via MIDI across all 16 channels, assigning waves here and there.
It's XG, so it supports those controllers, and the ability to tune any drum sound within reason.
It was my 2nd real synth, and the only one I bought from new (used to have a IIFD/E! and I have an MS2000r among others), but I still like it.
The knobs on the front are ok, they pots are aging a bit, and I dunno if you can still get the replacement knobs for it or not.
The action is rubbish, though. Really floopy. No better than most modern cheap junk casios.
Thank you Loscha and matrix :)
ReplyDeleteSpent few extra bux and get AN1X - same just about everything but the guts - perhaps one of the most amazing and underrated VA's out there. I got one and never parting with it. The analog style sequencer is worth the price of admission alone, not to mention the most FANTASTIC keybed I owned, immediately after K5000. AN1X - if you find one can be had for about $350 - $500. GET ONE instead of this one.
