ReplyDeleteI don't agree. It's a bargain. And well used (never alone I admit), can be really surprising.
ReplyDeleteIt can be a load of fun. I really miss the arpeggiator on that thing!

The thing would freak out and make some nasty tones!
The MC303 can have a indi-Electronica vibe that really fits with the times of late. They are only like $200 on the bay and if you look around can be had in the low $100 range.
ReplyDeleteThe main problem with this unit is that it is internally underpowered. Roland limited the original budget so they used components which couldn't keep the timing in the sequencer etc., seperate outputs were cut and other things. So, as a result, the drums, the sequencer and anything "fancy" like the 303like bass can be safely avoided cause they are practically un-usable. It does however have some nice sounds that can be sequenced and will blend in fine. the Arpeggiator is OK too, good for quickly drawing sequences. For the drums, better get a R-8MkII or at least a Boss DR-770.
