Roland SynthPlus HS-60 Programmable Polyphonic Synthesizer

via this auction
"Simply this synth is a consumer level Juno 106 with built in speakers and amplifier. Marketed for the home user hobbyist. It even has a sheet music stand option. It's cool if you can find one because it's like a portable Juno 106 that you can play anywhere with those built in speakers! Another feature of this synth is its stereo MIX IN, a stereo input for jamming with other sources of music through the internal speakers. If you're going to use the HS-60 in the studio, you'll need to insert a 1/4 inch plug into the headphone output to bypass the internal speakers since they will continue to output sound when a plug is inserted into only the main audio outs."

  1. I got me one of these really cheap at a pawn shop. Usually places like that sell them for less because they don't know it's basically a 106. I didn't have a car at the time so I started walking down the road with it wrapped up in a towel that I brought under my arm until a campus police car spotted me trudging down the road. The things we'll do for synths. Also this bitch is pretty heavy.

I love mine, I use it a lot for pad like sounds and just the great synthdeath tones you can get out of it. Sadly, I have two problems with mine. One, the suboscillator doesn't work.. and two, when I turn the envelope-amount slider down really low, sometimes the filter just "dies" on some notes, randomly. I don't know about these things, so I'm gonna have to get it checked out by someone who does.

  2. These are better for chopping into a Junior106 than the standard 106.

Almost all the circuitry is underneath the main panel to make room for the speakers, so all you really have to do is get out the hacksaw!

I have one in the backroom waiting for just such an amputation...

  3. That's funny - this is the one I sold few years ago (yes, that one). LOL... I guess it's going to find a new owner yet again. I replaced a failed VCO in it and it was all cool thereafter. Aside from toothache-inducing boring looks it is still Juno 106.

  4. I hope your sawing up a hs-60 and not an 106?!?! I'm really not keen on the idea of messing about with the structures of synths...even the colour schemes. leave em be *sob* *sob* ;-0

  5. Does anyone know what size and ohm rating these speakers in this are? I got a hold of one that someone ripped the speakers out of.
