  1. I'm still trying to get comfortable with the idea that the DX7 is a "vintage" synth.

    Does that make me old?

  2. Yeah, the same thought went through my mind when I posted it. Same goes for the first VAs now. It is interesting when that shift happens.

  3. At $469.00 "buy it now" price, it seems a bit pricey to me. As the seller points out, they made over 200,000 DX-7s. They aren't rare or hard to find. For that price, you could get a MicroKorg. You could get a good midi controller and Logic Express. For that price, if you have your heart set on FM synthesis, you would do better with a DX-7II with its cleaner signal path, expanded memory and better midi controller capabilities.

  4. I got a DX-7 II FD the other day off of Craigslist for $200. With DX Explorer I am already kicking some FM programming ass. I love it, but I don't think I would pay over $200 for one. I hear the original ones like this are supposed to "sound better" and thus cost a little more. But I have not noticed a big difference in the two models as far as sound goes. But for the price of the Buy It Now I could think of around 10 other synths in that price range I rather have including another Juno 60 or 102.

  5. Years from now, when I tell my son that I once sold my DX7 for $250, he will spit-take his Coke Retro(TM), and tell me he just paid $2.5K for one.

Oh, and, we'll all be wearing tin-foil jumpsuits.
