This needs a 3rd option. "Depends on the mood I'm in"
ReplyDeleteI purposely left that and "both" out. It's the easy answer.
ReplyDeleteYou didn't give the other options Cage suggests. Personally, I make presidents with my synths.
ReplyDeleteJuno Lincoln is a hit at house parties.
ReplyDeleteWow, quite the philosophical poll there. I'll go with I build "Sonorous Sculptures".
ReplyDeleteI sculpt sounds with my synthesizer. I arrange sounds into works of art in my DAW.
ReplyDeleteIt's like a clay sculpture. I loved this video. I love watching old dudes talk about music/sound in its purist form.
More of these types of posts, please!
I play really pathetic sequences on my synth, but my DAW on the other hand..
ReplyDeleteAlso of the third option opinion:"PLEASE EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCE."
ReplyDeletemy third option: noise.
ReplyDeleteI think according to Cage, creating "sounds" with a synthesizer denotes intent which would invalidate them as "sounds" in his opinion.
ReplyDeleteWhat's nice about this though, is to be able to view his innocent and academic appreciation for sounds in his won words as opposed to the image and novelty laden view of them that we have today as as a contrast and descendant of his work.

ReplyDeleteMost of the time, when I think I've made 'music' it really causes people to run fast from the room.
ReplyDeleteIt's inexplicable.
The survey question doesn't make sense! Music can be defined as organized sounds. What Cage is talking about in the clip is how music is no more important than unintentional or ambient sounds. Actually it sounds like he preferred the unintentional artificial and natural sounds around him more than music.
ReplyDeleteI have faith in you. I think you can figure it out. If you can't email me. You can find my address on the bottom right of the site.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy every part of synthesis and sound design with synthesizers. I make sounds first, then from those hopefully inspiring and useful sounds,.. music. :)
ReplyDeleteA random thought: A life with synthesizers is a great sounding life. :)
