  1. $11,000!!! Awww come on get serious. Yes it's a classic and all but as much as I would love one and even if I was rolling in cash I still wouldn't pay that much!

  2. What's with the "14xx" stuff? That's a red flag for a stolen instrument as far as I'm concerned. There is nothing inherently dangerous about a serial number, nor is there anything that can violate your own security. I'd be very careful before any money exchanged hands.

  3. It's not stolen. I even had a picture of the serial number plate in the pictures. 1438. I have always just felt strange placing serial numbers in ads since ive had scammers hijack my adds before. Just seems weird to me.

  4. I believe it's accounted for anyway now.

  5. Agree with you Heath; posting serial #s in ads just allows some thief to add legitamacy to their own scam.
Unless a specific serial # gives you some useful info, like chip set, bad batch, later mods in a production run I don't see the point.

  6. Dear Andy Ford,

As Ricky Roma said in Glengarry Glen Ross, don't open your mouth until you know what the shot is. Mine sold recently for $10,100 to a very happy winning bidder. The runners-up were also very close to the target amount.

I do not know Mr. Finnie, but he holds a lot of respect in the synth world and has a number of "good trader" shout-outs on the boards. He is hardly a gouger or a scam artist.

The original retail price of the CS80 was far higher than 11 grand in today's dollars. It is stuffed with over 200 pounds of components and hand-wired by women. As an actual instrument that can be played & practiced for a lifetime, it is priceless.

Thank you for declaring your thrift in today's troubled economy, but try not to insult Mr. Finnie, Stevie Wonder, Vangelis or the handful of serious musicians who would still pay far more than the asking price in order to have a working instrument of such caliber.

  7. Wow, you're really selling it Heath! Do you still have that red Macbeth? Not that I'm any closer to snagging it...

  8. Conversely, I've seen people disguise serial numbers to sell illegally acquired property. I'm glad this isn't such a piece. And CS-80 #1498 says hello and I recently turned down an offer of $14K for it, so there's no reason you shouldn't get your price.

  9. Dear Mr Reed,

Having an opinion and voicing it is not a crime.

I don't deny you can get an awful lot for them or that they are indeed classic instruments.

Nor did I imply that he is a gouger (no idea what that is) or a scam artist.

My statement was simply an opinion.

Lighten up Mr Serious, life's too short!

  10. You are right, you can voice your opinion but also the comment "$11,000!!! Awww come on get serious." does imply I'm gouging on the price. If you don't know what gouging is how can you say you didn't imply it?

  11. Jesus aren't we a touchy bunch?

Yes I think it's too expensive (for myself) and I'm sure all you serious musicians would just laugh and turn up your noses at the crappy gear I can afford but each to their own.

Can't say I recall insulting any of those serious musicians Mr Reed mentioned either. Vangelis is one of my all time favorite composers.

As for the gouging, regardless of what it means I wasn't having a dig at the seller. My comment was more a comment on the crazy prices that old analog gear is going for these days.

I guess some things don't translate too well across the pond and on the net. Either way if I caused offense to the seller then I apologize.

    Right let it rest :)
