"Everybody knows that's what aliens sound like" - Bob Moog.
I wanted to do a scary Halloween dance song using only my Minimoog Voyager (pictured above) as a tribute to the awesome possibilities of the instrument. It's dedicated to the man who designed it. Dear Bob, thanks for everything.

The Voyager gets quite a workout in this piece, and I do my best to make it sound big and nasty. As it opens, the Moog mothership descends, tentacles of patch-cable swirling, and abducts the listener to the far reaches of the galaxy at well beyond light speed. As for what happens after that? Use your imagination!
At the final count, I had 90 stereo tracks of pure Moog goodness. There was no sequencing; I just played in each part "live." Except for the kick (IZM Bazzism), the first snare, a bit of guitar, and the beat at the end (which comes from NI's Maschine) everything is from the Voyager. Processing was limited to simple compression/sidechaining, mild EQing, and some basic (though sometimes big) reverbs and delays. Compression from the Stillwell Rocket / Verb from Aether / Delay by from Fabfilter's Timeless / DDMF EQ. That's it! Oh, and the Moogerfooger ringmod and phaser get in on the action occasionally."
how very craptacular!
ReplyDeleteI like the growly sounds - and glitchy burpy stuff. Analog niceness :D
ReplyDeleteBrian - Thanks man... glad you enjoyed! I'm all about the growls, glitches, and burbles (burples?). I've gotta get the voltage expander for the Voyager to further journey into modulation-land...
