808 State Olympic - Music Video 1990

YouTube via TerryF...witt This one brings back memories. I was fortunate to see them live back in the day at a rave in Long Beach. Bjork popped on stage for a bit. Those were my rave days... 808 was a huge "legal" rave but the majority were small warehouses. You'd get a tip or flyer from someone, then you'd have to go to some alley or behind a Jack in the Box to get a little flower pencil eraser or something and instructions to the next check point. You'd do this about three or four times and finally get the directions to the underground rave. One time we finally got to our destination only to have it broken up by the cops. Music stops, flashlights everywhere, and you just make a b-line out of the building hoping you won't get caught. Like Sodom and Gamorrah, don't look back!!!

Synth spotting. Yamaha CS50, Roland JX10 and more. video description:
"808 State is an English electronic music outfit formed in 1988 in Manchester, taking their name from the Roland TR-808 drum machine and the "state of mind" shared by the members. They were formed by Graham Massey, Martin Price and Gerald Simpson.
This is their music video Olympic from 1990"

  3. I (mostly) remember those days, too. Such fun! 808 State was not generally very popular, but they were pretty big in the rave/nightclub scene.

  4. Ah, the Long Beach Convention Center '91, it was called O2. 12,000 clubbers strong, the first American megarave! The only thing other than 808 that night that I remember was riding around on a tricycle on a figure eight track.

  5. Too funny. That was it. I remember huge nitrous balloons and running around like a clown doing a penguin walk on speed.

  6. Penguin walk on speed, hilarious! Our group used to call it the club shuffle, but I know exactly what you're referring to.
