Hammond Novachords

via Milo Johnson

Update via Caixa in the comments: "Over 1000 of these were produced, and although it's likely quite a few will have been scrapped over time, (or turned into drinks cabinets!) I think that it's equally likely that there are several more, possibly dozens, still to be unearthed in garages, warehouses and Aunt Mable's spare bedroom. As is often the case with 'rediscoveries' it just takes a little time for the momentum to pick up.

Four or five years ago you'd have been hard pressed to find anyone who had even heard of it, now everyone into vintage synths is talking about it, and there's even a sample library on it's way. It's turning out to be a real Phoenix, long live the Novachord!!"

  2. Although lots of web resources say there are about fifty of them, it's starting to look probably more about double that amount.

  4. I used to find them now and then, thrift stores of private garages and yards. But the nightmare of trying to restore one was so daunting I always passed on it. They sound beautiful but there are MANY tube organs out there with amazing tones, yet nobody wants them at all. But he Novachord is sexy and historically cool - beautiful furniture and sonic options, too!
