Teenage Engineering OP-1 Keyboard Texturing

via Teenage Engineering

"The OP-1 keyboard surface finish is accomplished using Electrical discharge machining. Hard to see in this picture, but the finish both feels and looks very nice. Smooth! Bonus: Minimum environmental impact. (photo credit: Kent)"

  1. Too bad the specific power consumption of EDM is so high...nice to see synth manufacturers starting to throw around "environmentally friendly" for their own benefit (don't get me started on plastic grocery bags! GRR!). In the end, the customer ends up paying for this expensive manufacturing technique that's usually reserved for prototyping. I'm guessing the production run for the OP-1 isn't large enough to warrant a larger scale manufacturing technique.

  2. They should just called their company 'EnviroTech'...

    Oh wait, that's already taken.
