Dave Smith Mono Evolver Keyboard

via this auction

"The four oscillators all sound great. The analog oscillators are warm, with great sync and PWM effects. The digital oscillators are incredibly thick sounding -- they are 12 bit waveforms, and can sound tough, or very very warm when the analog filter is closed a little bit. And nothing at all compares to sequencing the digital waveforms from the internal sequencers. When combined with ring modulation and cross-oscillator frequency modulation, you have sounds that no other synth can possibly make.

One of the most amazing (and under appreciated) aspects of this synth is the analog filter and the tricks it can do. Two stand out: Audio Mod of the filter, and Lowpass split. Audio Mod allows the analog oscillators to modulate the cutoff frequency of the filter. This gives a really warm sound, which sounds fantastic when you set the filter and oscillators to the right frequencies. It really gives a new level of animation to the sound. The other secret, Lowpass split, allows the synth to sound like two different synths at once. It splits the lowpass filter, so that they cutoff two different frequencies. It really sounds like you have two sounds going, for example a lead and a bassline. This sounds incredible, and unbelievably it works even when you are running the whole synth from the same monophonic sequence. This is a trick no Evolver user should neglect."
