The Prototype Moog Voyager

via Geary Yelton's Photos

"I just remembered that Bob Moog once showed me a synthesizer prototype and I took a picture of it. I only just realized it was an early version of the Voyager."

  1. or is it a proto for a Voyager Old School? If not, does this mean that the Voyager with the touch pad was designed after the concept work for the Old School was already done? Because this looks like an OS with ADS envelopes and some sort of 4-way switch for the VCA mode select. Moog designed a new mini, then added a touchpad and released it, and then went back a developmental step and released it without the pad. I assume this means the touch pad was a fairly late addition?

  2. This prototype was for the Voyager and the touch pad was very early on, not something tacked on as an after thought. The Old School came much later. See this post and this post for other pics of the prototype. There was discussion on various synth lists before the Voyager was released and the touch pad was discussed.
