Shashkin (or Ya Ein Moulayetin) on Korg Electribe EMX
YouTube via rudeog | November 06, 2010
"The song Shashkin was recorded by Omar Faruk Tekbilek however I believe it has its roots as a traditional bedouin song. It was popularized at one time by Samira Tawfik in the song Ya Ein Moulayetin. Like any old song, it's roots and ownership will be disputed.
The song is played on the bayati maqam (arabic scale). Since the electribe can't play this scale due to it being microtonal, I had to resort to monkey business to get it to sound (almost) correct. I didn't do much with the arrangement, FX or drums as I was focusing more on getting the microtones of the scale. I edited the video down to shorten it as it was originally 5 minutes."
