TR606 Zombie Mod

via locoder on electro-music.com

"Hi everyone, I am actually working on a complete new processor for Roland TR606 I have finished most of the code, so I can play and enter drums etc works great, I had a dead TR606 and looked around for like 3 years for a replacement processor.....no luck, so I decided to just code a replacement, I want to add features like shuffle, I have completed the code for that but it does not sound correct? in my code I have a variable that gets incremented every time the sync 24 clock signal has a rising or falling edge, on the first step I add one to this variable to give 7 clock cycles before the next drum trig happens then on the next I minus 1 to give 5 clock cycles before the next drum trig, so essentially I am moving the odd steps forward a little bit, but it does not sound very good on anything above 2 shifted cycles, its weird because my code is sound, but I am guessing that it is something else I have not thought of? I noticed that other people still keep the 6 cycles per step but shift them forward? so effectively you have 7 cycles for the first step and 6 for the next is this correct? I want to add flam, midi as much as I can or have various version? if anyone can help me with the shuffle timing problem or is interested in getting one of these mods done? let me know, I will post a video soon on youtube or something or I can email you one?"

Update via locoder: "I should also mention that I have completed, some small SMD analog voice add ins for the TR606 which include a 909ish bass drum, clap and snare, as you may or may not know there is not much room inside the tiny 606, hence me making the analog voices all surface mount."

Update 6/2/12: See the comments below for new info and/or this post.

  1. Hi just wanted to give you a quick update, all the code is working, the shuffle sounds great and works I figured that problem out, I now just want to make the code a bit more portable, and need to write an SPI based flash storage routine, at the moment you cannot store your patterns once the unit is turned off, I will do this in a way so not only will it store your drum patterns but each pattern will have its on level of shuffle stored and its timing, so when playing the patterns live you can have say 4 patterns playing in sequence then the last one could be in half time and one in double time to give different rhythms, also on each different pattern you could save different levels of shuffle to give a more loose feel as it plays through this was not optional on the original TR606! it sounds great just with these extra options, also I know I have been promising a video and I will get this up as soon as I can, just be patient as I am very busy at the moment.
    Take care
    Loco.

  2. I have been fortunate enough to get the injection mold, that made all the KNOBS, BUTTONS SLIDER SWITCHES, so we had this made and have had all these parts manufactured, we also have new original stock and the manufactured ones are exactly the same chrome plated sexy little acid and drum knobs
