Own My Moog Taurus

Own My Moog Taurus from TACG on Vimeo.

"Up on the block is my Moog Taurus I -- the original, first generation, and still the fattest two-voice analog synth in the land. And this includes the Taurus 3, which, while feature-laden, does not pack the same voluptuous sonic goodness as this one. Why? Who can say? But I'm not particularly golden-eared, and even I note the difference in the A/B shootouts I've heard.

So:

If you've never heard one, I've put together a little demo of its funky fatness. No effects or eq in this clip. As you can see in the video, it's in fantastic shape, with very little external wear and tear, and everything is in perfect working order. The glass flap above the custom controls is removable, and I sometimes take it off for better access, as you can see in some of the shots.

As you can also see in the video, filter and volume controls were designed as sliding foot pedals. This was a fantastic idea which was replaced by a more typical mod/pitch bend wheel configuration on the Taurus 3. Too bad. The little pedals are chunky and easy to grab, which makes it simple to do rapid envelope-follower style effects with a flick of the wrist. This works because you can tell by sight and by touch exactly where the pedal is in its travel. And the length of travel is just long enough to provide good resolution, while being short enough and smooth enough to travel quickly from fully open to fully closed. Check the clip for several examples of this.

I need to free up some space in the arsenal for some other things, and I really don't use the Taurus as much as it deserves to be used, so it's time to let it go. Hopefully you can give it a more active lifestyle than I have.

$1950. Will personally deliver in NYC to ensure safe arrival of this vintage piece.

Thanks!"

  1. As a NYer living out of the area, I respect the hype. But as an audio & video pro & T3 owner, I can confirm that the T3 does indeed, sound the same; much respect to Moog, for nailing it. I'm sure you can find a buyer that agrees with you, tho ;) Again, best wishes...
