The Deitz Modular Synth where you'll find full details and samples.

"This project is a personal project. As much as I'd like to release these designs for SDIY there are 2 issues, Firstly there are many errors as this is a first time (and only) build, Secondly I don't have Don Buchlas permission to release these versions (flawed or not).
The design is based on the Buchla Music Easel which is pictured in the
history section of the Buchla website. The original blueprints can be found
here..."
Firstly if there are many errors as this is a first time (and only) build,i guess you debuged them so your synth works,so i can't see the problem to update the information if you realy
ReplyDeletewant to help the DiYer to manage to built the same thing.
Secondly you don't need Don Buchlas permission to release these versions (flawed or not) because those are complete different layouts + you changed the circuitry by removing parts of it (like the whole autotune and remote system)
But on the other hand, its a question of respect. He may not "need" permission in the legal sense, but in the moral sense. You don't give away another man's house (not intended as an accurate analogy, more a pat aphorism that feels like it fits). Even if he removed sections, it's still Don's design minus some bits... meaning still completely Don's circuit design, even in a different layout.
ReplyDeleteWell,he claim liking it to release it for the DiYers, why then he just don't ask Don Buchla permisson instead of just writing 'i don't have Don Buchlas permission'?
ReplyDeleteYou're assuming he hasn't already asked and been refused. He wrote "I don't have ... permission.", not "I'm too scared to ask".
ReplyDeleteAnyway, that's all beside the point. This is a great build, and obviously a lot of work. Some of those circuit diagrams are really faded scans, so just restoring those is a huge labour... going through all the layout and build as well...
This deserves serious applause. (sound of two hands slapping together ensues)
Really really nice job! This is quite a daunting task, and it looks very nice. I would love to hear it.
ReplyDeleteNice work. It have analog the memory cards?
ReplyDeletePlease help DIYers and publish the information!!
Of course it is Don's desing but... to do what? he don't make this synth any more. This design is nothing if nobody can make music with it.
