S-trig Control of Space Echo Footswitch

YouTube via chromeeumm | February 01, 2011 |

"The footswitches used with Space Echos switch a connection to ground, hence why I tried employing an s-trig adapter to automate control of these functions from a modular synthesizer.

Please note that the various Space Echo models appear to implement their foot switches differently, and I've only attempted these tests with this RE-150 and an RE-501. Its my understanding that in the RE-201, the footswitch stops the entire tape transport (motor, etc... ). Consequently, this might not be a good idea to try with those units! In these other models, the tape remains running all the time.

The s-trig adapter used here (home-made; based on a 2N3904) failed to work in controlling the footswitch functions of my RE-501. I was, however, able to leverage a Synthesizers.com Q128 analog switch to toggle a connection to ground (using a home-made 1/4" shunt in one of the Q128's throws ). This works great with the footswitch jacks of the RE-501, and is especially fun when used to engage the sound-on-sound looping feature.

Thanks for watching, and happy Space Echoing!"
