"Performances:
Monday, July 18: I'll be performing my Electronic Music Foundation-commissioned work Threshold for electric guitar, Kyma, and New York environmental sounds as part of the World Listening Day celebrations at New York University, Steinhardt Education Building, 35 West 4th Street, 6th Floor, NY, NY 10012. In collaboration with the Electronic Music Foundation and the New York Society of Acoustic Ecology, NYU's Music Technology Program will present a program of compositions and field recordings based on the sounds of New York City, in honor of world renowned composer and acoustic ecologist R. Murray Shafer's 78th birthday. The NYU events will take place from 4:15PM to 9PM. For more information, go here: http://steinhardt.nyu.edu/events/2011/7/18/268503/world_listening_day
Tuesday, July 19: I'll be playing a set of new music for Buchla modular synthesizer, electric guitar and lap steel with Lucio Menegon at Cafe Orwell, 247 Varet Street (between White and Bogart Streets), Brooklyn, NY 11206. This will be the first official appearance of my collaboration with Lucio, a wonderfully creative and inspiring improviser with an impressive and extensive history of performances around the world. For more information, go here: http://www.cafeorwell.com/events.html
Friday, August 5: I'll be playing a set of exploratory electronic improvisations for Day 1 of the Experi-MENTAL Festival 3 at Goodbye Blue Monday, 1087 Broadway, Brooklyn, NY 11221. I've also contributed a Buchla track to the Experi-MENTAL Compilation 2 CD that will be available at the festival. For this performance, in keeping with the experimental theme, I'll be working with the Buchla analog modular synthesizer only, creating a spontaneous composition based on live patching, starting from an empty configuration and building the piece as I build the patch. I hope to see you there.
New Releases and Compilations:
Polychromatic Integers: Periphery, a new independent CD label founded by Darren Bergstein, creator of the One Thousand Pulses concert series, will soon be releasing Polychromatic Integers, a new version of my second unissued Periodic Music CD, which was originally to have been released in 1989. I'm thrilled that this music will finally have a chance to be heard after so many years. Polychromatic Integers is now available for pre-order from the Periphery website: http://onethousandpulses.com/index.php/periphery/
Meditations on Light: Composer and sound artist Simon Whetham kindly invited me to take part in his Lightyears remix compilation, which will be released soon as a 2-CD set, called Meditations on Light, on Monochrome Vision. Other contributors include Fourm, Philippe Petit, Mise_En_Scene, Maile Colbert, Scanner, Christopher McFall, David Wells, Iris Garrelfs, Yann Novak, Lawrence English, and John Kannenberg, so my own track, entitled From Above, will be in distinguished company.
Tobira Compilation Volume 1: Hakobune, with whom I collaborated on the Tobira Records 10" vinyl release Luminous Accidents, has just released a limited-edition compilation on cassette of drone and ambient music for guitar, to which I contributed a track entitled Forming. Other contributors include Greg Davis, Nobuto Suda, Hakobune, Celer, and Yui Onodera, among others. IFAR Comp 1: I contributed a very noisy Buchla track, The Scales of TIme, to this online compliation: http://www.reverbnation.com/artist/artist_songs/1487253
Peak The Source: I also contributed another new Buchla track, Ludus V, to this huge netlabel compilation from suRRism-Phonoethics: http://www.phonoethics.com/surrism-phonoethics_peak_the_source_volume_1-3_sPE_0100.html
Cassauna: Finally, I'm pleased to say that a new cassette label from Important Records, Cassauna, will be releasing about 80 minutes of some of my new and recent Buchla music. I don't have a firm release date yet, but it will probably be this Autumn. For more about Cassauna: http://cassauna.importantrecords.com/
Thanks, and have a great Summer."
