EMS VCS-3 PUTNEY Synthesizer Serial #18 1969 Production

via this auction

"EMS VCS-3 PUTNEY Fully functional. Case has some joint separation / cracking (very common for this period production according to EMS’s Robin Wood) Easy re-glue. The unit has had a couple of tiny mods that were completely removed with no signs remaining except extra back panel holes and updated power jack. This rare and cool version is from the first production made during 1969 and can be dated by its extremely low serial number (#18) and also by the fact it was supplied with dins (according to Robin Wood of EMS only the first 20 were made with this style din jacks instead of 1/4 jacks). As well the unit is slightly gold in panel coloring and has a trim piece between lower and upper panels. Again only the first 20 or so were like this and they are far cooler looking. This synth was approved by David Cockerell himself with his initials on the serial tag and completed 22nd of December, 1969. Pretty much all orig. parts inside. Should be recapped. I'm assuming it was owned at one time by NYU as the sticker implies however since it was a very early production most likely serious provenance belongs to this unit. This has a sticker indicating that it was the Ionic Industries Inc Putney VCS3 carefully placed over the EMS graphic (Electronic Music Studios (London) LTD VCS so I'm guessing this was when Ionic was distributing EMS in the states." A few knobs lost their silver inserts. I have two in a plastic bag and Robin Wood of EMS stated more are available through EMS. This is a rare chance to buy a very early production EMS VCS-3 Putney in working condition. Pick up or inspection is possible in Los Angeles."
