Moog Taurus III Discontinued?

This one I do not have confirmation on. It came in on an email list via this link. BTW, I wouldn't sub to that list until we have confirmation. I'm not seeing mention of it on Moog Music Inc Facebook, and their Taurus page is up. I'm checking in with a couple of people at Moog and will post back. Note the date on this page is 6/6/12. It's 6/8/12 so something seems fishy. We'll see.

Update: I heard back from Moog and this is legit. Another notch in synth history. Word is the Taurus III was introduced as a limited set of 1000 units. Due to popular demand an additional 500 were made. 1500 units exist.

"6/06/12 Asheville, NC Moog Music today announced the end of production of the Taurus 3 Bass Pedals. The synthesizer company plans to build the final instruments this week and then forever close the production line. The Taurus 3 Bass Pedals have a nearly four-decade legacy and without the passion of Moog’s dedicated customers, these storied instruments would never have come to be.

Mike Adams, Moog Music President & CEO, explains the history, “After years of requests from our loyal customers to reissue the original Taurus 1 Bass Pedals, we realized we needed to do it, but simply did not have the resources. In order to fund the research and development, we asked those same loyal customers to pre-order 250 pieces. Thanks to their passion and dedication to Moog, by the end of that month we had over 250 pieces pre-ordered! In 2007 our engineering team, led by Cyril Lance, began work on the new Taurus 3.”

The Taurus 3 Bass Pedals were released in 2009 as a limited production reissue of the legendary Taurus 1. The Taurus 3 captured the classic sound and look of the Taurus 1, while improving on its functionality. Taurus 3 owners include Rush, The Black Keys, Animal Collective, Jean Michel Jarre, Yes, Weezer, and The Dave Matthews Band.

“It's been a great run and I want to thank all of you who, sight unseen, had the faith that we could design a product that you would covet. It's a special piece for a unique musician,” said Adams. “With the announcement that we will no longer be manufacturing this product, we are also announcing a new firmware release that improves performance and adds new user requested features. "

Extremely limited quantities of The Taurus 3 Bass Pedals are still available at stocking dealers.

The Taurus family of synthesizers lives on through Moog’s latest tabletop synthesizer, the Minitaur Analog Bass Synthesizer. For more information on this addition to the Taurus family of synthesizers go to: Moogmusic.com/minitaur."
