Note the EX-1 is not the pre-cursor to the GX-1. That would be the "EX-42 (1970–1977, stage model, design origin of GX-1)" according to the list of Yamaha products on Wikipedia.
"For your consideration is a Yamaha FX-1. This polyphonic FM synthesizer is one of the rarest, most complex, and most expensive synthesizers ever built. Yamaha's flagship FM synthesizer/organ son of the analog GX-1/EX-1 couple, and father to the DX-1, this beautiful instrument packs all the sonic possibilities of a standard organ and polyphonic synthesizer into one gigantic and unique package. If you think that the DX-1 is incredible, which it is, this is even better. The FX-1 is to the DX-1 what the GX-1 is to the CS-80. When released in 1983-4, the FX-1 had a $43,600 price tag (compared to the DX-1, which was released in 1984 with a $10,900 price tag). That's $102,000 today when adjusted for inflation. It is the second most expensive synth that Yamaha ever made. It is rumored that less than 100 were built. Don't miss your chance to get this extremely rare and incredible-sounding synthesizer for much, much less!

This is a very large instrument - 45" high x 60" wide x 32" deep and nearly 500 lbs! - and can only be shipped via freight. The $590 shipping cost is just an estimate..."

WOW!
ReplyDelete100 units ? False rumour ! Yamaha made far more than 1000 FX-1 units, don't let you impress with them, they are not so rare and we can easily find FX-20 which are wooden console with exactly the same tech specs, and those can be found quite easily for around 100-200 € on second-hand market !
