"This is a very rare example of the Black Coffee analog synth module designed by Analogue Solutions as part of the Phobos series. It's in a Phobos series casing with minijack interfacing on the front and quarter inch jack interfacing on the rear.

The Black Coffee is an incredibly powerful miniature analog synth with two audio oscillators, LFO, White Noise, Filter and Envelope. You can remove the module from its casing and drop it into a Eurorack style system, given the correct power rails.

The Black Coffee provides strong two-oscillator analog sounds and also acts as a powerful analog filter processor, its filter being based on that of the Korg MS20.

The condition of this particular unit is "partially working", so it is absolutely not suitable for a beginner and does need servicing by someone with experience. It does power up (a 12V AC wall wart is needed and not supplied, though it's marked 15V AC on the rear) and the LED's light and the LFO runs. The filter oscillates and the White Noise works. The oscillators also seem to be running basically, but aren't at the correct volume and may or may not be responding to voltage control. The front panel minijack socket outputs audio but the rear panel jack socket doesn't - I think this is expected, since these were end of line units and some of the interfacing options were incomplete. Specifically, the rear panel has space for an optional MIDI input module but that's not present at all.

Of course the designer Tom Carpenter is alive and well at Analogue Solutions in the Midlands and you may well opt to simply ship it back to him for servicing..."
