Perfect Circuit Audio (RSS)
Yamaha's desktop DX-7, unfortunately not programmable via the front panel. DX-7 editors including ones for the iPad should work with it though.
I had an interesting conversation with someone once regarding the original DX7 and TX7 vs. FM synthesis on newer models & software synths. He argued that although the synthesis engine might be the same, the originals sound better to him due to the DACs (Digital to Analog audio Converter). He said the same for Roland's D50 vs. the D50 card for the V-Synth.

Same comment about the analog output stages of the Roland S-50 / S-550. These days we use sample-rate and bit-depth converted versions of the original, 12 bit 30K in the case of the S-550. back then making that resolution sound good was done in the analog circuitry. rate/depth converters just do not do the same thing.
