Roland Juno-6 Demo Track by The Outsider

"This track appears on the 100 Suns EP by The Outsider, available at http://iamtheoutsider.bandcamp.com

All sounds (rhythm, percussion, melody, fx and weirdness, and the vocoder carrier as well) were programmed by The Outsider using only the Juno-6. Of course the audio samples were not, but that should be obvious. Everything was multi-sampled and sequenced using an MPC2000XL. As you can see in the video, this Ju-6 has been modified: a CHD Elektroservis MIDI kit and non-factory LEDs have been installed (by The Outsider). The track was recorded and polished in Logic Pro 9. The Ju-6 may be a simple, one oscillator DCO synth, but it has its strengths, and provides instant gratification thanks to a very easy to understand and logical layout. Soft synths and plug-ins are all the rage, but in my opinion there is absolutely no substitute for the immediate, tactile satisfaction that comes with playing and programming any hardware synth, be it true analog, DCO analog, or VA. My only gripe is that I didn't buy a Juno-60... patch storage would be so nice. Thanks for checking this out, and more shenanigans of The Outsider can be found at http://soundcloud.com/the_outsider

Incidental info. Photos shot with Nikon D3, 35-70 f3.3-4.5 (I know, I know, crappy lens, but it was less than $20 so have mercy on me eh), then tweaked in iPhoto. Video thrown together in iMovie '09."
