"MIXMODE saturating a dynamic signal source.
More info about MIXMODE at www.steadystatefate.com
The BD808 is fed into MIXMODE's mixer saturation circuitry. The effects of the saturator on a bass kick is demonstrated at various settings.
The bass kick is then also hard clipped by the SSF GND CTRL - audio and CV utility.
While the signal peaks are hard clipped, the tail of the kick remains in MIXMODE's saturation region and increases so, as the volume level is increased. This is in effect a multistage distortion capable of a large palette of harmonic overtones.
On it's own, MIXMODEs saturation circuit is unique. As the bias/clipping level is reduced, the signal's peaks are first softly rounded and then squashed.
So the effect is a combination of soft clipping and compression of the signal peaks. This allows for a wider variety of tones and phase shifting effects are heard when biased or voltage controlled.
Increasing the volume begins to saturate the entire signal, adding life and animation. Driven further, the signal begins to hard clip via GND CTRL, which introduces a quicker occurrence of high order harmonics. You can hear the changes as the signal retreats from hard clipping back into pure saturation.
MIXMODE is not just a saturator, it is a very high fidelity, precision attenuator, inverting attenuator, adder/subtracter, full color signal polarity indicator and high end DC coupled audio and control voltage mixer!
