Anne Graham at Serge L.A. in the Early Days

via Anne Graham on Facebook

"‪#‎tbt‬ Way back, Throw back Thursday... Serge Modular Music droids

Had so much fun at Serge's in L.A."

Side note: this is the third person I've come across that was at the shop back in the 1970s. I actually used to walk by the shop when I was just a little kid. I had no idea of the magic and history being created there.

Update: for those curious, the shop was on the third floor here off of Santa Monica Blvd. & Western Ave.

Update2: anyone know what's to the right of the Oberheim Programmer in the second pic?

Update3 via Kevin Braheny Fortune in the Facebook thread linked above: "I'm not positive this is the one, but I built a custom programmer as per Serge's design for Pete Robinson that had small edge card plug-ins that had a series of dip switches on them to control SEMs. SEMs with a bunch of custom analog synths in a big panel that I also built that utilized an early Armand Pascetta multi-voice keyboard."  According to Kevin, this might have been around 1977.

Update4: Added a note to this post on early programmable synths.

  1. In the 2nd photo, does anyone know what that SEM-looking thing is just to the right of the Oberheim Programmer?

  2. Good question. I can't place it at the moment. I'll see if anyone in the FB thread knows. I'll also ask in the post above.
