Dave Smith Instruments Prophet '08 Improvisation L (50)

Published on Jun 4, 2015 Sacred Synthesis

"Let me be the first to say that this improvisation is typical of the other pieces on this channel. It's only more of the same. But I wanted to demonstrate again the strengths of the Prophet '08 Keyboard.

This piece was played - except for the bass - entirely on ONE Prophet '08 Keyboard. In other words, it uses a split setting. The sound on the left hand is a pulse width modulation organ tone, and the sound on the right hand is a classic sawtooth lead. This is where the Prophet '08 excels - in making these standard, classic, traditional, old school analog sounds. And this is precisely why I like the instrument so much.

Another detail worth noting: this setting uses the Output B jacks on the back of the instrument. The organ sound is panned at the mixer to one side, and the sawtooth lead is panned to the other. This allowed for a stereo depth with a single instrument, and it also allowed me to process each sound differently. Reverb was added to both sounds, but delay was appropriately added only to the sawtooth lead.

Instrumentation:
DSI Prophet '08 Keyboard
DSI Evolver Desktop
Hammond XPK 200L

Reverb from Lexicon MX300
Delay from Alesis Nanoverb 2

Performed live and recorded directly to CD.

All music property of Sacred Synthesis."
