Yamaha DX7 demo - The Final Countdown, Europe with a punchy DX7 brass patch

Published on May 26, 2016 Power DX7

"****PLEASE NOTE, THIS IS NOT AN EMULATION OF THE ORIGINAL SYNTH BRASS SOUND FROM THE SONG**** Instead, I used a powerful and punchy DX7 brass patch to demonstrate the true capability of the Yamaha DX7.

This is a Yamaha DX7 demo brought you by Power DX7, showcasing the breathtaking realism and unparalleled versatility of the Yamaha DX7.

About the Yamaha DX7 FM Synthesizer

The Yamaha DX7 is the one of the best ‘pure’ synthesizer which has a very powerful FM synthesis engine. It is a famous vintage synthesizer, released in 1983, that is gaining resurgence recently. Yamaha DX7 sounds were very famous during the 1980’s with its typical E. piano and E. base sounds.

About Power DX7

I have owned my Yamaha DX7 Mk I since 1986 and making my own original DX7 patches ever since. My focus is to push the DX7 (and other FM synthesizers including DX7s, DX7II, TX802) to its limits to create many original patches with breathtaking sonic quality, realism and expression, from warm analog synthesizer sounds to uniquely DX7 piano, brass, string voice, etc.

My very best original DX7 patches can transform the DX7 as well as Yamaha DX7s, DX7 II and TX802 into a powerful synthesizer in its own right. Also, a Yamaha DX7 plugin (such as FM7, FM8 and Dexed) can be transformed into an amazing synthesizer, faithfully re-creating the Yamaha DX7 sounds.

About This Demo Video

This video demonstrates the Yamaha DX7 sounds with a powerful and punchy brass patch.

I have chosen a song, Final Countdown by Europe to create this great Yamaha DX7 cover video. Excluding drums, all sounds featured, including brass, voice, pad as well as bass sounds are created and fine-tuned by myself, using my DX7 front panel only (no patch editor used). I hope you enjoy this Yamaha DX7 music that I created for this cover and hope to inspire you that the DX7 is the truly powerful and versatile ‘pure’ synthesizer of all time.

For those interested in a Yamaha DX7 review, this is an excellent Yamaha DX7 demo showcasing its capability and versatility. For those interested in Yamaha DX7 programming, this DX7 demo shows you that creating amazing DX7 patches are only limited by your imagination.

0:15 – Europe, Final Countdown

The powerful and punchy DX7 brass patch is packed with mid harmonics, giving its very powerful brass ’Attack’ sound. This is a very unique DX7 brass patch since it has a natural pitch change at Rate 1 (DX7 envelop generator initial speed to reach to the first level, Level 1) even without using a Pitch EG. Also its harmonic content changes with key velocity, so you can hear the difference between slightly soft and more powerful sounds.

This is what the DX7 is designed for, producing very powerful and punchy brass sounds that can rival samplers, romplers and hybrid synths.

Also you can hear a great voice patch as well as a pad sound (which I used instead of a guitar sound)."
