Roland TR-606 Drumatix

Published on Jun 29, 2017 tiergrinder

"16+ minutes of sounds from the Rolands TR-606 Drumatix drum machine. Recorded dry without any effects or post processing.

606 is sometimes referred as the poormans TR-808. It doesn't sound quite like an 808 and it only has 7 sounds (Kick, Snare, Lo Tom, Hi Tom, Cymbal, Closed Hihat, Open Hihat), but it still carries that Roland X0X vintage charm. I bet the looks doesn't hurt either.

TR-606 sequencer does something that many other classics didn't do. It can switch between pattern play and pattern write modes, while the sequncer is running. Sounds are classic Roland from the 80's. TR-606 Kick is relatively weak when compaired to other sounds, but with mixing kick all the way up, cranking some accent and mixing other sounds lower levels, the 606 Kick can have some nice punch to it. Snare isn't exactly like on the TR-808 but its similar. Tom sounds gets closest to the 808 realm, while hihats sound more metallic, if thats even possible. From all the rolands analog drum machines, I love the 606 hihats the most. They sizzle and shine, and can really cut through when accent is applied to them. Overall the 606 is fun little box. Its cute, small but powerful and it has that analog drum machine magic.

This video is tad long and even boring at times, but I wanted to record long video, that shows simple beat making from start to finish and show some programmed patterns."
