025//A Crumbling World - 10 minutes of dark soundscape (Moog DFAM, 2x Mother 32, Eventide Space)

Published on May 26, 2018 Alastair Wilson

"A dark, semi-self-generating modular patch using 2 Mother 32s and a DFAM sent through an Eventide Space hall reverb and an Eventide Timefactor on tape delay setting.

I've continued exploring the DFAM, and next up on my list of 'to-use' sounds is the growly FM bass that you can get from it; add a bit of noise and suddenly you have a dark soundscape to play with! Although its quite repetitive as my patches go, I liked the feel of it, and detuning the M32's note pitches gave the melody an extra bit of much-needed character to round off the patch.

PATCH NOTES:
The DFAM supplies most of this patch; the 'crunchy' noise comes from noise modulating the filter cutoff, while the growl in the bass comes from frequency modulation of VCO 2 by VCO 1. The lower M32 supplies the melodic notes, with each note detuned slightly by a random stepped voltage. The sequencer is stopped and started randomly to make the melody unbalanced and lurching, and is clocked by the DFAM, (glitched so that it runs at 1/12 the DFAM's tempo). The background high-pitched sounds are made by the top M32. Random stepped voltages from the M32s' Assign outputs control various parameters to make the patch unpredictable."
